Surrendering an Animal...
_Griffin Pond Animal Shelter
accepts animals from residents of Lackawanna
or Wyoming Counties only between the hours of 9am and noon,
every day. Due to the overwhelming number of animals that we receive, we cannot
accept animals from any other counties.
Please bee responsible. Please do not surrender your own animal to the shelter as a stray. People do this every day and their "stray" must wait longer to get to the adoption area because there is no background information and the staff must waste time searching lost reports. Please give as much info as possible about your pet so that he or she can be matched up with the adopter that will provide the best home.
A driver's license or state ID is required when surrendering any animal to the shelter and a monetary donation is required.
Griffin Pond Animal Shelter sees approximately 7,000 animals come through its doors each year. Because many people in our community fail to spay or neuter their pets, this shelter is normally full and the number of homeless animals far exceeds the number of homes available. Please make sure that you have made every effort to keep your pet before surrendering it to the shelter.. Your dog should be vaccinated against Distemper and Parvovirus and your cat should be vaccinated with the FVRCP vaccine before entering the shelter. These diseases can kill your pet if they have no immunity before entering a group environment such as a kennel or shelter. Thank you…

Lost and Found...
_Spread the Word! Griffin Pond Animal
Shelter should be the first place to check for lost animals from both Lackawanna
and Wyoming Counties. The dog wardens, police departments, and citizens
finding animals within these two counties bring animals to this shelter when
seeking assistance in finding pet owners. If your pet is missing, you should
call the shelter at 586-3700 and your local police as soon as possible.
The shelter keeps a listing of lost and found animals at all times and a staff
member will take a thorough description of your pet and information on when and
where they were lost.
Also, please visit the shelter and ask a staff member to escort you through our stray section to help determine if your lost pet is here.
Many pets might not be reunited with their families because the shelter's description of a pet may differ from the owner's description, leading to an inability to match an owner with a lost pet. Collars and tags are a must, but a microchip implant is THE most efficient means of identifying pets and reuniting them with owners quickly. Microchips are available from this shelter or your veterinarian.
