Adopt

Our Adoption Process:

View our adoptable animals by clicking the button above or by searching for "The Humane Society of Lackawanna County" on PetFinder. We often post our adoptable animals with a description on our Facebook page. Once you have a pet(s) in mind, fill out our online application. Please make sure that all details are filled in on the application. Please make your vet(s) aware as well as current landlords - as we will be reaching out. Once your application has been received and processed, someone from our adoptions department will contact you with next steps.

Adoption Return Policy:

At Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, we are committed to finding loving, permanent homes for our animals. If unforeseen circumstances arise and you are no longer able to care for your adopted pet, we ask that you contact us first to discuss the situation. While we will do our best to assist with rehoming or, if necessary, bringing the animal back into our care, please understand that space and resources can be limited.

We strongly recommend having a backup plan in place at the time of adoption should challenges ever occur. This could include trusted family, friends, or other arrangements. If we have the ability to accommodate a return, we will be in touch. If this is the case, please bring all original adoption paperwork with you. Please note that adoption fees are non-refundable.

Policy on Pet Cosmetic Alterations:

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter's policy is that adopters will not subject adopted pets to any non-medically necessary cosmetic alterations. Such as (but not limited to), ear cropping, de-clawing, tail docking, de-barking, etc. For more information on why de-clawing is never in the cat's best interest, please visit  https://pawproject.org/

Adoption Fees Explained:

All adoption fees collected assist in the daily care and ongoing needs of our animals during their stay at our shelter. Every animal adopted has been provided a full medical examination along with medical treatment (if needed). Our adoption fee includes vaccinations, a microchip, and the spaying/neutering of the animal. We reserve the right to hold special animal adoption promotions wherein prices may be reduced or waived altogether for a period of time.
